Reprinting the First Edition of the Urantia Book

This project was offered to Urantia Foundation

We offered this entire project to Urantia Foundation in 2015 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the first edition. Our intention was to anonymously collaborate with Urantia Foundation to publish the inviolate first edition without requesting reimbursement or fees. Mo Siegel, President of Urantia Foundation, was interested and presented the project to the Board of Trustees at their meeting in July. We were told some Trustees thought it was a nice idea for the 60th, but they were all very busy with several other projects. They would need to take it up again at their next board meeting in October.

Mo reported back to us after the October meeting that the Trustees had decided not to pursue the project. He acknowledged we could publish the 1955 first edition of The Urantia Book on our own without the permission or participation of Urantia Foundation.

We appreciate those who labor in different vineyards at Urantia Foundation. However, our hope is that eventually Urantia Foundation will respect the views of those of us who are concerned with the permanent preservation of printed copies of the original 1955 inviolate first edition as mandated in their Declaration of Trust.

The Declaration of Trust that established Urantia Foundation in 1950 and was approved by the original Trustees and the revelators is posted on Urantia Foundation’s website. It states that: “It shall be the primary duty of the Trustees to perpetually preserve inviolate the text of The Urantia Book ... from loss, damage, or destruction and from alteration, modification, revision, or change in any manner or in any particular.”

We are concerned that these 60-yearold books are now in various states of decay. Effort should be made to preserve the inviolate text in book form (as also mandated in the Declaration of Trust) and make it available at a reasonable cost to anyone who wants a copy.

Some have suggested that a first edition of The Urantia Book can be downloaded from the internet. However, digital files can be altered, a printed book cannot. In addition, if printed from a download on ordinary copier paper (doublesided) it takes more than two reams of paper.

It is our goal to reprint the inviolate first edition text of The Urantia Book in book form to reserve this touchstone for all generations. Urantia Foundation and Urantia Fellowship have worked together to create a Standard Reference Text (SRT) which contains changes to the 1955 edition. We believe that the unaltered inviolate first edition is an essential anchor for the revelation and a necessary complement to the SRT editions.
